In medio virtus

It would appear that the greatest heresy to
the Christian Church lay in the Cathars’
denial that Christ ever lived as a man, but
was a being of spirit, much like an angel.
They also believed that it was Satan who created
the material world after his expulsion
from heaven when God the Father, taking
pity on his once bright star Lucifer, allowed
him seven days to see what he might create.
The bodies of Adam and Eve were animated
by fallen angels and directed by Satan to
beget children who would follow the ways of
the serpent. To counter the lust of the flesh
inspired by the devil, the Cathars preached
abstinence before marriage, chastity, vegetarianism,
and nonviolence. They believed in a
progressive doctrine of reincarnation with the
spirits of animals evolving into humans. In
their view, it was a dualistic universe, with
good and evil having equal strength, and they
considered their time in the world as a struggle
to resist Satan’s power.

Como se ve, la historia de la Creación ha sido pensada varias veces, teniendo en esta de los Albigenses una vertiente más claramente identificable a la resolución 'pacífica' entre la existencia de un Dios bueno que permite la existencia del mal.

La teogonía tiene aquí el papel de catarsis inmediata: se aúna la fé y la lógica, la razón y el sentimiento, la intuición y las pruebas 'de facto'.

Esto es posible sólo cuando se percibe la incesante violencia que encierra el hecho de pensar en un Dios perfecto que asiste impertérrito a la destrucción del hombre a manos del hombre, y castiga -frecuentemente- a quienes intentar perseverar en la virtud, sonriéndole también y al mismo tiempo al malhechor, al hombre que persevera en su maldad.

Esta historia, la creación según los Albigenses contiene más verdades de lo que pudiera parecer, y su fábula es una muestra de exacerbada intuición, pulcro raciocinio, y también, de confianza y entereza: se advierte que quienes profesaban la idea de un mundo creado por una entidad maléfica no aceptaban de buena gana esa 'condena' a priori, su vida misma y sus acciones estaban encaminadas a 'corregir' ese mal... maldad a la que finalmente sucumbieron.
